Kocaeli family feud leaves teenager dead, sparks court hearing

On 21 July 2025 a dispute between two feuding families erupted on Dünürler Street in İzmit, Kocaeli, Turkey. The clash involved firearms, stones and clubs and resulted in the death of 17‑year‑old Fahri K. and injuries to seven other people. Police detained 22 suspects; 14 were sent to prison while eight were released on judicial control. The first hearing was held at the Kocaeli 2nd Heavy Penal Court, attended by both detained and released defendants, the victim’s family and lawyers. Testimony highlighted a claim that a 15‑year‑old pregnant girl’s child was not her partner’s, which was cited as a trigger for the violence.

The court considered charges of illegal firearms possession, attempted homicide, assault and intentional killing of a child. The proceedings are ongoing as the families seek justice for the fatal outcome of the street brawl.
