Erzurum begins construction on 5.8 billion TL sports complex
Construction has begun on a major new sports complex in Erzurum, Turkey. The project, tendered by the Housing Development Administration (TOKİ), includes a new stadium, a 5,000-capacity sports hall, and a full Olympic swimming pool. The contract for the project was signed on August 26, 2026, with a total value of 5.8 billion TL.
This development is noted as the second-largest state-funded sports investment in Erzurum's history, following the facilities built for the 2011 Universiade. Local officials, including Levent Çakmur and Erdoğan Dönmez, have inspected the initial excavation and earthworks at the site in the Ömer Nasuhi Bilmen neighborhood.
In other regional sports news, Edirne is preparing for the 2026-2027 academic year with coordination meetings focused on increasing student participation in school sports programs. The region currently hosts over 14,000 licensed athletes.
