Kochi invests in marina upgrades and cultural initiatives

Kochi is undertaking significant infrastructure and cultural developments to enhance its international profile. The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) has completed a ₹2-crore modernization of the Kochi International Marina at Bolgatty Island. The upgrades include dredging, piling to increase water depth, berth replacement, and improved security systems. The facility can now berth 32 yachts, and authorities are targeting 40 yacht arrivals in 2026.

Simultaneously, the Kochi city corporation is working to transform the city into a global ‘City of Creativity’. The corporation has earmarked ₹2 crore in its 2026-27 budget for initiatives to establish Kochi as a ‘City of Visual Art and Culture’. A key component of this plan is the upcoming International Kerala Art, Design, Craft and Cultural Conclave, which aims to bring international artists into the city’s public spaces. Bose Krishnamachari, the corporation’s Art, Design and Culture Curator, is working with city officials to implement this vision.
