Škoda Auto celebrates 30 years of Octavia production

Škoda Auto is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the modern Octavia model, which entered series production on September 3, 1996. Since its debut, the model has become a cornerstone of the company’s international growth following its integration into the Volkswagen Group.

Over the past three decades, Škoda has produced nearly 7.9 million units across four generations. The model’s development began in 1992, reviving a nameplate originally used between 1959 and 1971. The modern era of the Octavia utilized Volkswagen Group technology and was designed by Dirk van Braeckel.

Production of the current fourth-generation Octavia takes place in Mladá Boleslav and Kvasiny in the Czech Republic, as well as in Kostanay, Kazakhstan. The milestone marks a significant period of expansion for the manufacturer, which saw its annual production capacity in Mladá Boleslav increase from 90,000 to 350,000 vehicles during the initial development phase of the model.
