Škoda Auto cuts EV production following Russian attacks on Ukrainian supplier
Škoda Auto has been forced to reduce production of electric vehicles, including the Elroq and Enyaq models, due to supply chain disruptions caused by Russian attacks on Ukrainian suppliers. The strikes have targeted a facility in Zhytomyr operated by Kromberg & Schubert, which produces specialized cable harnesses essential for electric vehicles.
In response to the shortage, the automaker has canceled night shifts at its main plant in Mladá Boleslav and is currently operating on two shifts. Employees have reported potential reductions in working hours and wages. To mitigate the impact, the company is attempting to source alternative cable harnesses from other regions, such as Morocco and Tunisia.
The disruption highlights the ongoing dependency of the European automotive industry on Ukrainian manufacturing. Beyond Škoda, the shortage of components from the Zhytomyr plant may affect other major manufacturers, including Mercedes, Porsche, BMW, Audi, and Volkswagen, as well as commercial vehicle makers like MAN and Scania.
