Škoda Motorsport monitors WRC27 development

Škoda Motorsport is currently monitoring the development of the FIA's WRC27 category. According to Michal Hrabánek, head of Škoda Motorsport, the company is not yet entering this project, despite participating in the FIA working group responsible for its preparation. The WRC27 category is being designed as a purely internal combustion 1.6 turbo engine class, moving away from the plug-in hybrid systems used in Rally1 since 2022.

Škoda continues to prioritize its economically sustainable customer program, focusing on the sale and service support of the Fabia RS Rally2 for private teams worldwide. This strategy has led to significant success, including seven WRC2 manufacturer titles and numerous driver championships.

In a comparison of historical and modern performance, WRC2 champion Emil Lindholm tested the vintage Škoda 120 S Rallye from the Škoda Museum. The historical model, developed following FIA rule changes in the early 1970s, featured a 1299 cm³ engine producing up to 120 hp. Despite its age, the vehicle could reach speeds of 200 km/h and featured technical advancements for its time, such as a relocated radiator to improve cooling and front-axle load.
