Škoda Octavia marks 30 years and 7.9 million units produced
The Škoda Octavia is marking 30 years since its modern production began in Mladá Boleslav on September 3, 1996. Since its debut, the model has reached a production milestone of nearly 7.9 million units across four generations.
The vehicle played a critical role in transforming Škoda’s brand image following its entry into the Volkswagen Group, transitioning the manufacturer from a budget brand to an established European player. Key technical milestones included the introduction of automatic transmissions and the DSG gearbox, as well as the expansion into the Combi (estate) segment, which became highly popular in Central Europe.
Globally, the Octavia remains Škoda’s best-selling model. In the first half of this year, 96,500 units were delivered worldwide. The model continues to see strong market performance, remaining a top seller in markets like Slovakia and the Czech Republic, with Germany serving as its largest export market. The future of the line is expected to shift toward increased electrification.
