Škoda Superb marks 25 years with 1.8 million global sales
The Škoda Superb is celebrating 25 years since the debut of its modern generation, which was first introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 11, 2001. Over four generations, the model has achieved global sales of approximately 1.8 million units, becoming a key pillar for the brand among both individual and fleet customers.
Turkey has emerged as a critical market for the model. Since its introduction in the country in 2002, sales in Turkey have approached 100,000 units. Notably, Turkey is the world's largest market for the Superb sedan variant. Škoda Auto CEO Klaus Zellmer highlighted the importance of the Turkish market, stating that half of the Superb sedan production is sent to Turkey.
The Superb nameplate has deep historical roots dating back to 1934, following the modernization of the Škoda 640. After a hiatus following production ending in 1949, the name was revived in 2001 to represent the brand's return to the upper tiers of the mid-size segment.
