Škoda unveils first full hybrid powertrain for Octavia

Škoda has introduced its first full hybrid powertrain, which will be featured in the new Octavia model. Unlike the company's previous mild and plug-in hybrid offerings, this series-parallel hybrid system does not require external charging.

The system utilizes a 1.5-liter TSI petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a single-speed automatic transmission. One smaller electric motor acts as a generator and starter for the petrol engine, while a larger motor drives the front wheels and handles energy recuperation during braking. The vehicle operates in three distinct modes: pure electric for short urban distances of approximately two kilometers, a series hybrid mode up to 60 km/h where the petrol engine acts as a generator, and a parallel hybrid mode for higher speeds where both engines contribute to propulsion.

Two power configurations are available, delivering combined outputs of 136 kW (185 hp) and 170 kW (231 hp). Both versions utilize a 1.6 kWh battery. The hybrid powertrain will be offered in both the five-door hatchback and Octavia Combi station wagon body styles, specifically within the Selection and Sportline trim levels. Orders are scheduled to begin this month, with the first deliveries expected in December.
