Kodaeral XI destroys 1.4 million illegal cigarettes in Merauke

The Eleventh Naval Regional Command (Kodaeral XI) destroyed 1,498,800 illegal cigarettes in Merauke, South Papua, on Wednesday. The seizure consists of 94 boxes of cigarettes with an estimated value of Rp1,359,360,000.

The crackdown was the result of an operation conducted by the Naval Military Police (Pomal) and Sintel Kodaeral XI on July 28, 2026, at the KNS I Complex. The investigation revealed that the cigarettes were shipped via sea from Surabaya to Merauke aboard the KM Spill Hasya.

Laboratory testing by Peruri excise stamp authenticity experts confirmed that the excise stamps on the packaging were counterfeit. The evidence is being coordinated with Merauke Customs for further legal processing.
