Kłodawa Mayor proposes referendum over salt mine waste storage

In Kłodawa, Mayor Piotr Michalak has proposed a local referendum following significant public opposition to a plan to use a salt mine for waste storage. Over 900 residents signed a petition against the proposal, expressing concerns that the mine might seek to store hazardous waste underground.

During a meeting at the Municipal Cultural Center, the Mayor criticized inconsistencies in communications from the mine's management. He suggested that a formal referendum is necessary to accurately capture the social mood and allow citizens to make a decision with full responsibility. While mine representatives stated they live in Kłodawa and do not intend to harm residents, the local community remains largely opposed to the storage project.
