Kodi discounter to close 19 stores amid insolvency restructuring
Non-food discounter Kodi is significantly reducing its store network following an insolvency filing. The company has confirmed the closure of 19 locations, all situated in North Rhine-Westphalia. Affected cities include Ahaus, Alpen, Bochum-Drehscheibe, Duisburg-Rumeln, Düsseldorf-Oberbilk, Emmerich, Essen-Kupferdreh, Essen-Steele, Gelsenkirchen-Buer, Jülich, Kleve Herzogstraße, Königswinter, Mönchengladbach-Wickrath, Selfkant-Tüddern, Siegburg, Solingen Kirchstraße, Wuppertal-Vohwinkel, Wuppertal-Barmen II, and Zülpich.
Out of its 144 total branches, 69 locations are secured for continued operation, while the future of another 56 stores remains uncertain as negotiations proceed. In Oberhausen, the company stated that the Sterkrade and Schmachtendorf locations are saved, and they are optimistic about finding a solution for the Bero-Center branch.
The restructuring follows Kodi Handels GmbH's application for insolvency proceedings under self-administration in July. The company, which employs approximately 1,200 people, expects to issue terminations to employees at the closing locations following the expected opening of insolvency proceedings in early October.
