Kodiak Sciences shares surge on successful Phase III eye treatment trials

Kodiak Sciences reported positive Phase III results from its DAYBREAK clinical trial for two experimental eye treatments, Zenkuda and tabirafusp-ted, targeting wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Both therapies demonstrated non-inferiority in vision gains compared to the current standard treatment, aflibercept (Eylea).

Zenkuda showed significant potential for increasing the duration between treatments, with 54% of patients requiring injections only every six months. This is a notable improvement over current therapies that often require injections every four to eight weeks. Tabirafusp-ted also met key anatomical and visual endpoints, providing both VEGF suppression and anti-inflammatory activity.

Following the announcement, Kodiak Sciences' shares surged by over 170%. The company plans to submit a Biologics License Application for Zenkuda in the fourth quarter, targeting indications including wet AMD, diabetic retinopathy, and macular edema.
