Kodra e Pusit discovery reveals Late Antiquity rural dwelling
Archaeologists have identified a Late Antiquity rural dwelling at Kodra e Pusit, located near the city of Lushnjë. The discovery was made during an expedition led by the National Institute of Cultural Heritage in collaboration with the University of Tirana's Department of Archaeology.
The excavation was prompted by the accidental discovery of ceramic fragments and tiles by local residents. Findings indicate the site was a settlement rather than a luxury villa or religious monument. The identified rectangular structure measures approximately 7.5 m by 9 m, with walls between 70-80 cm thick, and is estimated to date from the mid-to-late 6th century.
Researchers are utilizing modern technologies, including Total Station instruments for 3D mapping and digital documentation, to map the site. Additionally, archaeobotanical studies of plant remains are being conducted to understand the relationship between the ancient community and their environment.
