Koen de Groot wins silver and sets Dutch record in 50m breaststroke
Dutch swimmer Koen de Groot secured a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke at the European Swimming Championships in Paris. De Groot clocked a time of 26.62 seconds, which improved his own Dutch national record by six hundredths of a second.
Italy's Nicolò Martinenghi took the gold medal with a time of 26.57 seconds, narrowly beating De Groot by five hundredths. Simone Cerasuolo of Italy also finished with a time of 26.62 seconds.
In the women's 50m freestyle, Poland's Katarzyna Wasick won gold with a time of 23.84 seconds. Sweden's Sarah Sjöström took silver (23.86), and Italy's Sara Curtis took bronze (23.99). Dutch swimmers Milou van Wijk finished fourth (24.09) and Marrit Steenbergen finished fifth (24.18) in the freestyle final.
