Koen Mazoudier reveals mental health and addiction struggles
Australian boxer Koen Mazoudier has revealed his intense struggles with drug addiction and severe mental health issues. The 30-year-old athlete described experiencing psychotic episodes, manic states, and full-blown hallucinations.
Mazoudier stated that his decline began after missing an opportunity to represent Australia at the Olympic Games, leading to a cycle of depression and substance abuse involving psychedelic drugs, marijuana, and other party drugs. His condition escalated to the point where he was placed in a mental health facility for violent and mentally ill individuals, where he was treated with medication typically prescribed for schizophrenia.
Despite these life-threatening challenges, Mazoudier is returning to the boxing ring this week with the goal of eventually becoming a world champion.
