Kočevje announces road, industrial, and disaster prevention projects
Kočevje Mayor Gregor Košir has outlined several key infrastructure and development projects for the region. A major road reconstruction project involving the state road G2-106 is underway. This includes replacing the signaled intersection near the Kočevje Health Center with a new roundabout, alongside improvements to pedestrian paths, cycling infrastructure, street lighting, and water networks. The municipality aims to complete significant portions of the work before winter to avoid prolonged traffic disruptions in the city center.
In terms of economic development, the municipality is preparing investment documentation for a 28-hectare industrial zone. Officials are currently in discussions with potential investors to fill these capacities, offering incentives such as exemptions from communal contribution fees to offset the estimated 7 to 8 million euro cost of utility equipping.
Additionally, the CITYRES project is being implemented to enhance resilience against natural disasters. In collaboration with companies Riko and Hydrotech, and the Spanish town of Onda, the initiative uses sensors and data monitoring to track weather conditions and water levels, specifically targeting the prevention of wildfires and monitoring the Kolpa River to assist civil protection services.
