Kofi Arko Nokoe unveils tourism and sanitation plans for Nzema

Kofi Arko Nokoe, the Member of Parliament for Evalue Ajomoro Gwira, has launched a dual-pillar development plan to enhance tourism and sanitation within the Nzema enclave. Announced during the 2026 Axim Kundum Festival, the initiative involves a strategic partnership with the Municipal Assembly to address public health concerns and rebrand the Western region as a major tourist destination.

A key component of the plan is a sanitation project aimed at eradicating open defecation by constructing dug-out toilet structures for compound houses. Mr. Nokoe stated that approximately 1,700 bags of cement have been allocated for the project, which will utilize local masons. Surveys have already identified 28 compound houses in lower Axim for the initial phase, with data collection continuing for Upper Axim.

To promote regional tourism, the MP introduced the ‘Discover Nzema’ package. He noted that while nearly one million people visited Nzemaland last year, most visitors were concentrated in Nzulezo. The initiative seeks to redirect interest toward other local landmarks, such as Fort San Antonio and the burial site of Paa Grant, to ensure more diverse economic benefits for the region.
