Koforidua police arrest suspect for jewellery theft during fire

Police in Koforidua have arrested 32-year-old Abubakar Abdul Latif for allegedly stealing female jewellery during a fire outbreak on Starlet 21 Street. The suspect reportedly used the confusion caused by the fire to steal items from a nearby jewellery stand.

The fire began at approximately 22:30 hours on October 3, 2026, in a room of a multi-story building and spread through the premises. While the Ghana National Fire Service and police worked to control the blaze and manage crowds, the theft occurred around 01:20 hours on October 4.

A fire officer, STO Atuahene James, sustained injuries during the firefighting efforts and was treated at the Eastern Regional Hospital.
