Koforidua priests fund GH¢1.6m church construction

Five Catholic priests within the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua have personally funded the construction of the St. John Vianney Catholic Church. The project, which cost GH¢1.6 million, was completed in eight months to serve the communities of Trom, Bornya, Korle, and Abansro in the New Juaben South Municipality of Ghana's Eastern Region.

The new 300-capacity church aims to reduce the travel burden for local residents, including the elderly and pregnant women, who previously had to travel over three miles to reach the nearest parishes. Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, the Catholic Bishop of Koforidua, led the dedication of the church at Trom, noting that such a self-funded initiative is a unique occurrence in his 40-year priesthood.
