Kogi-born bandits arrested in Anambra, Nigeria

Anambra State police arrested two suspected Kogi-born bandits after a coordinated operation on 27 July 2026. The suspects, identified as Dauda Mohamed, 38, and Umar Ali, also known as “Barjini,” 50, were linked to a series of kidnappings in the region. Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said the gang was responsible for the abduction at Divine Heritage Lodge in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area on 26 June 2026, where a ransom of ₦30 million was demanded and ₦15 million paid before the victim was released after four days.

Interrogations revealed the group had relocated from north‑west bandit enclaves to the south‑east, using an AK‑47 rifle supplied by the gang leader. Following the arrests in Anambra, operatives extended the operation to Enugu State, where Umar Ali was also taken into custody. The police emphasized that the arrests aim to curb kidnapping and armed robbery activities in the area.
