Kogi State confirms local government election results

The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has officially confirmed the results of the local government elections held across 21 local government areas and 239 electoral wards. KOSIEC Chairman Mamman Nda-Eri stated that the commission verified official returns from authorized officers and urged unsuccessful candidates to pursue grievances through established legal channels rather than disputing the legitimacy of the process.

However, the Conscience for Human Right and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR), an accredited observer group, reported significant logistical challenges during the election. The group noted that many polling units, including those in the state capital of Lokoja, opened late or lacked election officials and necessary materials. CHRCR also attributed low voter turnout to a lack of confidence, motivation, and adequate information among the electorate.

Despite these issues, observers described the voting process as largely peaceful, noting the early presence of security personnel and the lack of restrictions on citizen movement. CHRCR also expressed concern regarding the absence of support or participation from international donors and agencies.
