Kogi State: 21 Nigerians, including 15 NYSC members, rescued from kidnappers
A joint security operation involving the Nigerian military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes has successfully rescued 21 Nigerians from a kidnappers' hideout in the Egume and Ochaja forest areas of Kogi State. The rescued group includes 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and six other citizens, comprising eight males and 13 females.
The NYSC members were reportedly abducted last week while traveling from Abuja to Bayelsa State. During the rescue, one male victim sustained a gunshot wound and required medical attention. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commended the security agencies and local vigilantes for their coordinated efforts and directed that the perpetrators and their collaborators be brought to justice.
Kidnappers had reportedly demanded a ransom of 20 million naira for each abducted corps member. While the 21 victims are receiving medical care before being reunited with their families, security forces continue to pursue the kidnappers who fled the area following the operation.
