Kogi State urged to restore teachers' allowance, improve security

The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) Kogi State Chapter warned that schools in the state are repeatedly attacked and called on the Kogi State Government to strengthen security through better intelligence, community involvement and rapid response. The union also demanded the reinstatement of the 27.5% Teachers’ Special Allowance agreed in a collective bargaining agreement, saying the payment would raise morale and signal commitment to quality education.

ASUSS praised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for maintaining industrial harmony, introducing a state health insurance scheme and improving overall security, but also highlighted the need to recruit more teachers, pay retirees’ gratuities in larger batches, and address the acute shortage of staff in public secondary schools.
