Kogi West APC faces internal dispute over senatorial ticket

Internal political disputes have emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Kogi West Senatorial District of Nigeria. The conflict centers on the party's senatorial ticket following the primary election held on May 18, 2026.

Senator Sunday Karimi was declared the winner of the primary with 51,665 votes, and his candidacy was subsequently submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). However, the outcome is being challenged by Samuel Bamidele Aro, an aspirant in the same primary. Aro has approached the Federal High Court in Lokoja, seeking to be recognized as the legitimate APC candidate.

The dispute has raised questions regarding party supremacy and the legal standing of the challengers. While party supporters emphasize the need for discipline and respect for leadership, critics and legal challenges question whether the primary process adhered to the Electoral Act 2022 and the party's own guidelines.
