Nigeria's APC embroiled in court fights and party rifts in Ondo and Kogi

In Ondo State, loyalists of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa have taken the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court over the outcome of the National Assembly primaries for the 2027 elections. The petition, filed by a group of aggrieved aspirants, challenges the party's submitted candidate list and seeks interim orders to prevent any substitution of nominees.

Also in Ondo, Allied Peoples’ Movement candidate Sunday Falae called for the governorship to rotate back to the Central Senatorial District, arguing that the state capital Akure has never produced a governor despite its role as the administrative hub.

In Kogi West, Senator Sunday Karimi convened a reconciliation meeting with local government chairmen and party officials to smooth internal divisions after his declaration as the APC senatorial candidate. The effort was followed by a Federal High Court suit filed by Bamidele (Samuel) Aro, who contends that he was the rightful winner of the May 18 primary and seeks a declaration that INEC recognize his candidacy instead of Karimi's.

Across the state, APC figures such as former Ondo lawmaker Mayowa Akinfolarin have mobilised party structures to back President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates, underscoring the party’s focus on unity ahead of the 2027 polls.
