Kano State faces mixed reviews over education and welfare

Kano State is facing mixed assessments regarding its governance and educational outcomes. Labour leaders have commended Governor Abba Yusuf for his focus on workers' welfare and urban renewal, noting these policies as significant factors for the 2027 election cycle.

In the education sector, the state has seen conflicting reports regarding its 2026 National Examinations Council (NECO) performance. Former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje congratulated the administration, noting that Kano produced the highest number of candidates obtaining at least five credits, including English and Mathematics.

However, analytical reports suggest this success is misleading. While Kano had the highest volume of successful candidates, it also recorded the highest number of failures due to its large candidate pool. Analysis indicates Kano's success rate of 45.85 per cent fell below the national average of 60.13 per cent, resulting in a decline in the state's national ranking to 31st place.
