Kohei Sasahara to launch non-currency art project in Sendai

Artist Kohei Sasahara will present “Postpone no Chuo Bunri-tai” as part of the Jozenji Art Street 2026-2027 festival in Sendai, Japan. Running from September 24 to October 4, 2026, the project is an evolution of his social practice work, “Social Practice Postpone.”

The initiative explores the possibility of an exchange economy without currency. Local elementary and junior high school students will receive tickets from a central center to eat for free at 14 participating local restaurants. Following use, these tickets will be collected, framed as artworks, and displayed and sold in a dedicated gallery.

Managed by the newly established Postpone Co., Ltd., the project uses the corporate structure itself as a medium for art. By delaying the final settlement of debts and instead converting them into art, the project aims to visualize and sustain relationships through credit and mutual trust between children, businesses, and art collectors.
