The Kohima district administration, in partnership with the Kohima Press Club, held a memorial tribute for Niketu Iralu on August 27 at the DC’s Conference Hall in Kohima. Iralu was honored for his lifelong commitment to peace, dialogue, and reconciliation within Naga society.
During the event, Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem described Iralu as a respected scholar and writer, referring to him as the ‘Conscience Keeper of the Naga People.’ Superintendent of Police Krodi Rhetso praised his high moral integrity and his ability to demonstrate how conflicts can be resolved through forgiveness and negotiation.
The tribute included personal recollections from Iralu’s son, Kevipulie Iralu, regarding his father’s faith and his work with Initiatives of Change. The program also featured musical performances, a short film, and tributes from members of the Kohima Press Club and the Phom community.
