Kohima authorities impose prohibitory order around Lok Bhavan

The District Magistrate of Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, declaring Lok Bhavan and its surrounding areas a highly sensitive security zone. The order takes effect on October 28, 2026, and will remain in place until further notice.

The restriction aims to prevent unauthorized assemblies, meetings, processions, or demonstrations that could obstruct security personnel, interfere with official duties, or compromise public peace. The designated zone includes Lok Bhavan and the stretch of National Highway-2 (NH-2) from Box Cutting Junction to Classic Island.

While unauthorized gatherings are banned, exemptions are granted to magistrates, security personnel, emergency services, and authorized government officials. The Senior Superintendent of Police and local magistrates have been directed to enforce the order, and violators will face prosecution.
