Košice prepares for 103rd International Peace Marathon
The 103rd International Peace Marathon is set to take place in Košice, Slovakia, featuring thousands of runners including elite athletes and Olympic medalists. While the main marathon begins Sunday at 09:00, the event weekend includes the Nippon Steel Family Run on Saturday.
Marathon director Branislav Koniar noted that three top favorites, including last year's winner Balemelay Shumet Kebede from Ethiopia, have withdrawn due to health issues such as fatigue fractures and illness. Defending champion Moses Kipngetich Kemei is expected to compete.
The event will cause significant traffic disruptions in Košice. Road closures are scheduled from late September through October 5, affecting major areas including Hlavná Street, Rooseveltova Street, and Pribinova Street. Public transport, including trams and buses, will face diversions and temporary stop relocations near Námestie osloboditeľov.
