Kojima Productions moves Physint development from PlayStation to Xbox

Kojima Productions has announced that its upcoming tactical espionage project, Physint, has moved from PlayStation to Xbox following a sudden decision by Sony Interactive Entertainment to withdraw its support. Hideo Kojima revealed that the decision was communicated via a Zoom call in June without a specific explanation, a move that initially caused significant concern regarding the studio’s financial stability and the future of its nearly 200 employees.

Kojima Productions has officially responded to media reports, specifically addressing allegations from Bloomberg regarding the commercial performance of Death Stranding and the studio's financial health. The studio maintains it is profitable and healthy, urging skepticism toward unconfirmed reports.

The new partnership with Microsoft/Xbox aims to develop Physint as a broader intellectual property that could extend beyond video games into film and television. While the project is now being funded by Xbox, Kojima noted that the final platform availability and the choice of game engine remain undecided. The production has already cast Bill Skarsgård as the lead protagonist.
