Kojo Oppong Nkrumah demands accountability for GH¢650bn in economic funds

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, has called on the Ghanaian government to account for approximately GH¢650 billion allocated to various economic programmes. He argues that the administration must demonstrate the results of existing initiatives before introducing a proposed “new economy” in the 2027 Budget.

Nkrumah specifically questioned the efficacy of the 24-hour economy policy, the One Million Coders programme, the Women’s Development Bank, and the Nkokonkitinkiti poultry initiative. Regarding the 24-hour economy, he challenged the government to provide verifiable evidence of job creation, suggesting that SSNIT records should be used to prove any employment gains.

He expressed concern that announcing new economic directions without assessing previous commitments may serve to shift public attention away from unfulfilled promises. While supporting the objective of increasing domestic production, he urged for a comprehensive assessment of the current administration's economic performance.
