Kokuyo and Sony unveil haptic conditioning chair in Japan
Kokuyo, a Japanese office‑furniture maker, partnered with Sony Financial Group to develop a prototype "conditioning chair" that uses Sony's haptic technology, branded NOUS ARE™. The chair incorporates actuators and speakers so that a seated user can feel sound across the whole body, aiming to adjust mood and focus. Three modes are offered: RISE to boost energy, COOL to calm nerves, and FLOW to balance alertness and relaxation. The prototype is being tested in a booth shaped like a split capsule, and the collaboration also involved a Tokyo University associate professor who helped adapt the haptic system for immersive audio experiences. The device is intended for use by athletes, artists, and business professionals seeking performance‑enhancing conditioning before important tasks.
