Kolašin initiative proposes permanent commemoration of Daniel Vincek

The initiative ‘Zeleni Kolašin’ has proposed to the municipality of Kolašin the establishment of a permanent annual commemoration of Daniel Vincek Day. The proposal also includes initiating procedures to name a street after Vincek and other scientists who contributed significantly to the knowledge of Montenegrin flora, as well as declaring the Dulovine park-forest a protected area.

The initiative, which marks the 100th anniversary of Vincek’s birth (1926–2026), was signed by several local organizations, including Korifej, Natura, Summer Tango Camp, Bjelasica Trail, and Fenomeni.

Daniel Vincek moved to Montenegro in 1960 and settled in Kolašin in 1986. Alongside his wife Vera, he created a mountain flora garden that is now a protected natural monument. His scientific contributions include translating major works by European researchers and collaborating with international scientists. A plant species, Alchemilla vincekii, was named in his honor. Vincek passed away in Kolašin in the summer of 2021.
