Kolaka mining companies implement environmental and economic initiatives
Mining companies operating in the Kolaka Regency of Southeast Sulawesi are undertaking various environmental and economic measures. PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk and the Kolaka Police Department have launched a ‘Green Policing’ program in Pomalaa, involving tree planting to support land reclamation and mitigate dust in mining areas.
In response to forest and land fires, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk is coordinating with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to manage fires in the Puulemo and Baula regions. Preliminary mapping indicates that fires in Puulemo cover approximately 31.68 hectares, while fires in Baula affect an estimated 90 hectares within the company’s special mining business license areas.
Meanwhile, local and indigenous community organizations in Wolo District have expressed support for the continued investment of PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama (CNI). These groups emphasized that the company’s nickel smelting operations are vital for regional economic stability, providing jobs and supporting local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
