Koleje Dolnośląskie celebrates 100th Elf train in Lower Silesia

On July 4, the Lower Silesian regional rail carrier Koleje Dolnośląskie marked the arrival of its 100th vehicle, a five‑car electric Elf train built by PESA in Bydgoszcz. The train was displayed at Legnica station, where the public could tour the driver’s cab, learn about railway technology and meet the crew.

The milestone reflects a fleet expansion funded largely by European Union resources through the National Recovery Plan and other programs, covering up to 85 % of the cost. Koleje Dolnośląskie now operates 55 Elf units—the largest such fleet in Poland—and plans to increase the number of PESA‑built trains to 88 in the coming years. The investment, valued at over 2 billion złoty, is cited as a key driver of the region’s rail renaissance.
