Koleje Śląskie hires first former miner through retraining program
Koleje Śląskie has employed its first former miner as part of a professional retraining initiative. The move follows an agreement signed last November between the regional carrier and Polska Grupa Górnicza (PGG) to support workers transitioning out of the mining sector by creating new job opportunities.
Klaudiusz Sikora, a 35-year-old from Katowice with over a decade of experience in mines such as Staszic, has transitioned into a role as a rolling stock mechanic. Sikora, who previously operated mining machinery, decided to change industries following two underground accidents.
The regional carrier currently operates a fleet of 75 electric vehicles requiring regular maintenance and repairs. To facilitate this transition, PGG and the training company Synercom have been organizing information sessions to recruit interested mining personnel.
