Kolhapur youth arrested for stealing uncle's gold to buy Mahindra Thar

A 19-year-old man, identified as Samar Chavan, has been arrested in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra for allegedly stealing gold jewellery from his uncle's home to purchase a Mahindra Thar SUV.

According to police, Chavan stole approximately 15 tolas (around 150 grams) of gold belonging to his uncle, Umesh Maruti Chavan, and his wife. He reportedly sold the ornaments to a local goldsmith, Sangram Babaso More, for approximately Rs 10 lakh. Using the proceeds, the teenager purchased the vehicle.

In a notable turn of events, Chavan invited his uncle to attend the traditional puja ceremony for the newly acquired car. The theft was discovered when Umesh Chavan went to retrieve jewellery to wear for the occasion and realized the items were missing from the cupboard. The family noted that while the uncle's jewellery was gone, other valuables, such as those belonging to the grandmother, remained untouched, suggesting an insider was involved.

Kodoli police have arrested both the teenager and the goldsmith involved in the transaction.
