Kolkata banner warns political leaders against extortion

A banner displayed in the Salt Lake area of Kolkata has warned political leaders joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against engaging in extortion, threatening them with "egg therapy."

Sanjoy Poira, a former BJP mandal president for the Salt Lake area, placed the banner to caution leaders switching from other parties—specifically the Trinamool Congress—against bringing corrupt practices into the BJP. Poira stated that West Bengal voters have rejected syndicates, extortion, and "cut money," asserting that the BJP must maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption.

The term "egg therapy" refers to instances following recent state Assembly elections where arrested Trinamool Congress leaders, ministers, and councillors were reportedly pelted with eggs by the public while being escorted by police.

West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya has also cautioned party workers to avoid illegal activities, noting that action will be taken against members if corruption allegations arise. Bhattacharya urged leaders to distance themselves from the political practices associated with previous Left Front and Trinamool Congress administrations.
