Kolkata and South Bengal Brace for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms on July 5, 2026

The India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for Kolkata and six districts of South Bengal, warning of heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms on Sunday, 5 July 2026. The forecast predicts up to 97% chance of rain, strong gusts of 30‑50 km/h, and temperatures ranging from 26 °C to 30 °C with a RealFeel of 40 °C.

Coastal areas are advised to avoid sea travel; fishermen in the Bay of Bengal have been instructed to stay ashore until at least 7 July due to expected rough seas. Residents are urged to carry umbrellas or raincoats, avoid low‑lying water‑logged roads, and limit use of electrical devices during storms.

Similar conditions are expected across much of northern, eastern, western and central India through 10 July, with intermittent heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity continuing throughout the week.
