Kolkata businessman kidnapped and robbed by impostor CID officers

On June 28, 2026, a businessman from Baduria in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, was abducted in a black SUV in central Kolkata after men posing as Criminal Investigation Department officers approached him and his two associates at a Phoolbagan shopping mall. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of one crore rupees, and when the payment was refused they stole a gold chain worth Rs 3 lakh and Rs 70,000 in cash, beating the victim with a gunpoint threat.

The assailants later forced the businessman out of the vehicle near Madhyamgram and fled. Kolkata police have opened an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the mall and the Red Road area to identify the perpetrators.
