A massive fire broke out at a car showroom in Bankra, located near the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in the northern outskirts of Kolkata, early Monday morning. The blaze destroyed 22 new cars and severely damaged eight others.
Local residents spotted the fire around 5:00 AM. Eight fire engines were deployed to the scene, and it took several hours of intensive effort to bring the flames under control. Firefighters faced challenges due to a narrow entrance to the showroom and the need to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings.
No casualties were reported in the incident. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire and questioning showroom officials to determine if adequate fire safety measures were in place, noting that no service center personnel were present during the firefighting operation.
