Kolkata chemical factory fire triggers emergency response in Chittapur
A fire broke out at a closed chemical factory in the Chittapur area of Kolkata on Sunday morning around 11:30 AM. The presence of large quantities of stored chemicals within the facility raised immediate concerns regarding the rapid spread of flames and potential explosions.
Ten fire engines, along with police and disaster management teams, were deployed to the scene. Due to the dense smoke and locked iron doors, emergency responders used gas cutters to breach the building to allow smoke to escape and to reach the source of the fire. Firefighters focused on preventing the blaze from spreading to neighboring factories in the densely populated area.
Local lawmaker Ritesh Tiwari visited the site to monitor the situation. While no casualties have been reported, the incident has renewed concerns regarding fire safety protocols in the city, following a recent fatal hotel fire in the New Market area.
