Kolkata court grants status quo order for AITC Camac Street office
The Kolkata City Civil Court has issued a status quo order regarding the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) office on Camac Street, ensuring the party retains its possession, occupancy, and leasehold rights. This legal development follows allegations of vandalism and assault at the premises.
Prior to the court order, the West Bengal Fire Services Department served a notice to the building owner directing Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee to vacate the office, citing inadequate fire safety measures on the seventh and eighth floors. Additionally, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Kolkata Police recently dismantled an allegedly unauthorized AITC billboard from the building's rooftop.
The removal of the signage led to a physical scuffle, resulting in three FIRs being registered. These legal filings include allegations of heckling police and outraging the modesty of female officers, with Abhishek Banerjee and other party leaders named as accused. Meanwhile, police have arrested six individuals in connection with the alleged vandalism at the office.
