Kolkata Metro Pink Line receives KMC clearance for construction

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the Baranagar-Barrackpore Metro Corridor, also known as the Pink Line. This clearance addresses a major hurdle involving a legacy 48-inch drinking water pipeline running beneath B T Road.

The 12.40 km metro stretch will be constructed by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL). The agency has already sought bids for the construction of a viaduct and 10 stations, with a contract value of approximately Rs 1,587.39 crore. The deadline for bid submissions is set for September 29, 2026.

Local residents and officials have expressed optimism that the project will reduce travel times for students and professionals, alleviate traffic congestion on B T Road, and stimulate industrial and business growth in the Barrackpore-Titagarh belt.
