Metro Railway has achieved a significant milestone in the development of the 32-kilometer Kavi Subhash-Jai Hind Vimanbandar Metro Corridor, also known as the Orange Line. The agency successfully completed the first push trolley inspection on the Beleghata-IT Center section.

This inspection confirms that the viaduct and ballastless track work for this section are now complete. The project will move into the next phase, which involves electrical installations, including the laying of the third rail and the implementation of signaling systems. Once operational, the Orange Line is expected to connect southern Kolkata to the airport and pass through the New Town IT hub in Salt Lake.

The Kolkata Metro network, which began operations in 1984, currently spans approximately 73 kilometers. Authorities aim to expand this network to at least 130 kilometers in the coming years. Additionally, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has issued a long-awaited No Objection Certificate (NOC) to relocate a water pipeline under BT Road, resolving a major bottleneck for viaduct construction.
