Kolkata Metro to start 4 a.m. service on June 21 for Yoga Day
On June 21, Kolkata Metro will commence operations at 4 a.m., the earliest start in its 42‑year history. The early service is intended to help passengers reach Red Road for the International Yoga Day celebrations, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a large gathering.
The schedule will run on the Blue, Green and Yellow line sections, with trains every 14‑15 minutes between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. The Blue line will operate 214 services (107 up, 107 down) compared with the usual 152 on Sundays, while the Green line will provide 173 services instead of 108. Additional trips are also planned to ease travel for NEET‑UG 2026 candidates and attendees coming from distant districts.
The move is expected to simplify access for commuters and event participants, allowing passengers to alight at stations such as Park Street or Esplanade and walk to Red Road.
