Kolkata Police Outfit Durga Security Squad with New Uniforms and Helmets

Kolkata Police have equipped members of the "Durga Security Squad" with specially designed pink and orange vests that feature the face of Goddess Durga, her trident and the English label "Durga Security Squad". The police ordered 110 such vests at a cost of about ₹2.75 million and about 80 helmets bearing the Kolkata Police logo for roughly ₹1.08 million; the helmets include multilayer soft padding, side protection and a chin guard.

The squad, which patrols the city on scooters to improve women’s safety during the Durga Puja festival, was launched earlier this month to raise awareness of crimes against women. It operates within a joint patrol network that includes police stations, the cyber police, women’s police stations and the women’s cell.
