Kolkata Police recover phones and cash from terrorist mastermind's cell

Kolkata Police detective department officials recovered several electronic devices and cash from the prison cell of Aftab Ansari, the mastermind behind the 2002 attack on the American Centre. Ansari, a former operator of the terrorist group Asif Reza Commando (ARC), is currently serving a life sentence at the Presidency Central Correctional Home.

During a Friday night raid, authorities seized three mobile phones with active internet capabilities, two routers, a Wi-Fi device, two card readers, a pen drive, and earphones from Ansari’s bedding and clothing. Officers also recovered Rs 31,000 in cash.

An investigation has been launched to determine how the contraband reached the cell, with officials considering the potential involvement of prison staff. Investigators are working to trace the communications made via these devices, specifically looking for links to individuals or locations in Pakistan.
